Earlier this year, the Otago Regional Council (ORC) was presented the business case for a long-term publicly subsidised water ferry operated by ORC.

Council approved to take steps to enable a trial ferry service, the first of which was to vary the Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP), which is the guiding statutory document for public transport.

We consulted with you, the Queenstown community, about the plan change and you supported this.

The next step is to work out how we fund the ferry service. Much like the Orbus public transport network, this looks to be done through targeted rates with support from central and local government.

Please let us know if you support targeted rates increases to help fund a public transport, subsidised Wakatipu trial water ferry and, if so, which model you prefer.

This consultation closes 14 May 2020.

We are proposing three different models to increase rates in the Queenstown Lakes district to enable us to progress funding the Wakatipu trial ferry service. They include a new district-wide rate, the existing public transport rate area, or a new smaller public transport rate area for those properties in closer proximity of the ferry.

Please let us know if you support targeted rates increases to help fund a public transport, subsidised Wakatipu trial ferry service and, if so, which model you prefer.
