Tomahawk Lagoon restoration

We have heard from some of you at our two community workshops held earlier this year – now it's time to have some more say on the direction of Tomahawk Lagoon.

We have collated the information from each of the workshops, and identified some potential projects. Some of these can be ORC-led, and others may end up being led by others (with help from ORC where we can). Some projects that were suggested aren't feasible, and we've included these here with an explanation on why.

It is important to note that the bed of Tomahawk Lagoon and land immediately surrounding the lagoon is public conservation land managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC). ORC will work with DOC to ensure that any of the projects/activities listed have the support of DOC before proceeding.

Background

Members of the community championed for ORC to lead the Tomahawk Community Vision project, and it was included in the ORC 2017/2018 annual plan. This vison encompasses the Tomahawk Catchment.

Proposed projects

We received feedback on a number of projects at the two workshops including ideas to improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, recreational opportunities and formalising catchment management.

In the "Vote on projects" tab below you will find projects suggested in the workshops that will be ORC-led. You can vote on one or more projects to tell us which ones you think should be a priority.

In the "Other projects" tab, you will find project ideas that could be developed by others (either community-led or led by other organisations - ORC is happy to be involved as well). You can also find the projects we have parked for now, and why.

We are still open to new ideas so if you have something in mind that hasn't already been suggested please share this on the "New ideas" section.

Why are we consulting?

We know people who didn’t get to the workshops we ran earlier this year will want to have their say, as will those who came along.

More details?

If you have any questions please contact Nicole Foote, ORC liaison specialist, on 0800 474 082

Voting will close on 30 September. After this we will assess the results and then bring them back to the community.

Thanks for having your say!
