Roxburgh Debris Flow Engineering Reports

The ORC has been working on long-term management options for the creeks around Roxburgh which were affected by flooding and sedimentation in November 2017.

A recently completed assessment by engineers Golder Associates looks at a range of possible options to mitigate the effects of flooding and sediment build up. The report is available via the links below.

Due to file sizes, maps have been separated from the body of the report. A printed copy of the report will also be available at the Roxburgh Service Centre.

Engineering Options Report

Geomorphic Report

ORC staff are currently assessing the reports and plan to take recommendations to Council later in the year. Please note that these measures have been proposed by an independent consultant and have not yet been endorsed, adopted, or prioritised by the ORC or other agencies.

We held an information session in Roxburgh on Tuesday 8 May 2018 to help the community learn more about what happened on 26 November 2017.

We received a wide range of feedback. The common concern was the need to improve the level of protection at Reservoir Creek.

If you couldn't make it on the night we've summarised what is happening as part of our on-going plans to protect Roxburgh from future events.

Following the completion of the GNS report, and discussions with you, here's what we're doing:

We received a wide range of feedback. The common concern was the need to improve the level of protection at Reservoir Creek.

If you couldn't make it on the night we've summarised what is happening as part of our on-going plans to protect Roxburgh from future events.

Following the completion of the GNS report, and discussions with you, here's what we're doing:

Reservoir Creek: We’re seeking expert engineering advice on potential improvement to the Reservoir Creek channel to prevent further damage to property.

Re-seeding the channels: We’ve spread seed in the channels that were exposed by the flows in November. This will help stabilise the sediment.

Stephenson’s Creek has been cleared: We’ve cleared the sediment away to allow greater water flow down the channel.

A rain gauge has been installed: We've installed a rain gauge in the hills behind Roxburgh.
