What do you value most about your local lake, river, stream or wetland? Is it being able to go fishing or swimming? Or do you rely on freshwater for your crops or farm animals? Maybe you want to see native animals and plants living in the water? What’s your vision for your waterways?

New rules from the government require regional councils to work with communities and tangata whenua to find out their vision for the future of their waterways.

Here in Otago, we want to know what you want for the future of your lakes, rivers, streams, groundwater and wetlands.

  • Hello and thanks for visiting this page to tell us what you want for the future of your waterways.

In conjunction with the community, we need to develop long term freshwater visions for areas of Otago called Freshwater Management Units (or FMUs), which are based on water catchments.

To help us write a freshwater vision for your area, we’d like to hear what you would like for the future of your waterways, based on what is important to you.

When answering the questions below, please think of the lakes, rivers, streams or wetlands you value or love the most and why.

The answers you give will guide the development of a freshwater vision for the waterways in your area, for now and in the future.
