Lake Hayes like a mirror
The Maori name for Lake Hayes is ‘Te whaka ata a Haki-te-kura’. Whaka Ata – means a reflected painting or mirror and Haki te kura is the name of a highly regarded female ancestor. One interpretation is that the mirror-like features of Lake Hayes pay tribute to the beauty of Haki te kura. Here we see the mirror-like properties of the Lady of Lake Hayes.
