Amendments to the Otago Navigational Safety Bylaw and reversal of delegation for Lake Dunstan maritime responsibilities

ORC and Central Otago District Council (CODC) are proposing to transfer maritime responsibilities over the waters of Lake Dunstan back to ORC. We want to hear what you think about this and our proposed changes to the Otago Navigational Safety Bylaws.

Since 2006, Harbourmaster functions for Lake Dunstan have been the responsibility of Central Otago District Council (CODC). ORC and CODC are now in the process of seeking to reverse the delegation transfer of maritime responsibility over Lake Dunstan back to ORC.

As part of this, the Otago Navigational Safety Bylaws (the bylaws) need to be amended so they are relevant for Lake Dunstan. We’ve compared the two documents to see where they differ and amended our bylaws to include anything we don’t already have covered. We have also taken this opportunity to make further amendments to the bylaws to improve maritime safety around Otago.
